International Mail Price Increase

For 2013 the United States Postal Service has increased prices for International Mail Service. Familytree makes use of their services because they offer the lowest cost compared to carriers like UPS, FedEx and DHL and the lower cost is something we pass on to our customers. Unfortunately USPS has increased the price of some of the services we use by almost double, and our International shipping rates will also have to increase to reflect that added cost.

I am far from thrilled about this news, however the fact remains that the USPS prices are still lower than previously mentioned carriers. Familytree has had many International customers all over the world, which at times has blown my mind. It has been amazing to see where our posters and tshirts have ended up. With that being said I understand that buying products from across the world isn’t something you have to do, but I really appreciate your business, and hope to keep it. Hopefully the fact that we create unique illustrations and products that you can’t get anywhere else in the world will help make the sting of those few extra dollars a little less painful. The good news is that there are some really cool new releases in the works over the next few months that I am really excited about. Hopefully you will be too!

Local pickup for poster purchases

If you live in the Nashville area you are more than welcome to buy online and pickup your prints in person to save on shipping. However, you will be charged for shipping at the time of purchase (this is a limitation of the Familytree online store). If you decide to pickup you will receive a refund through Paypal for the shipping charges after you pickup.

Alternatively you may buy your prints directly in person rather than online. Credit card or cash is accepted. Sales tax is required on all transactions taking place locally.

If you wish to come to the Familytree office to pickup or purchase please make an appointment with Alex alex@familytreedesign.net 615-969-8798. Weekdays between 10am and 6:30pm are preferable.

New print “Stowaway” coming soon

Maybe you’ve already seen it on the Familytree Facebook page, or maybe you haven’t. Either way a brand new 3 color screen print entitled “Stowaway” will be on sale very soon. I’m also making an in-depth video on it’s creation. Different from the video that documented my drawing process of “A Ride Through Town” this video will be more of a story, that shows you where the ideas come from, and how a piece comes about from a more conceptual process, all the way down to it’s printing.

International Mail Delays (updated)

Update Feb 17, 2012

So here is what is going on. On 12/21/2011 I sent out 16 International orders using International First Class Mail. Apparently none of them have reached their destination. I have been calling the Post Office consumer affairs department a few times a week for updates. My contact there is pretty much as baffled as I am as to how this many pieces of mail would just disappear. The flip side to this coin of confusion is that the International pieces I sent out literally the very next day arrived about a month ago. Up until this point I have just been hoping that this was a case of a few packages being held up in customs. However the evidence is only pointing to complete negligence on the part of the Post Office (they have no idea where the packages are). Trust me I am very frustrated with the situation, and furious with the Post Office’s lack of service. However I do not want my customers left in the lurch. Most of you ordered the “A Ride Through Town” print, and as you may have noticed those are now sold out. I am going to do a small run reprint so that those who did not receive their print will be able to get what they have paid for.

Once again I am very sorry, and want to make this right.

I have been getting reports from a number of people outside the US who have not received their order of “A Ride Through Town”. All of these orders seem to have been placed on or before December 21st 2011. Unfortunately International First Class Mail does not offer tracking on packages. The US Postal Service has told me that International First Class can take up to 8 weeks to arrive. Although this much time has not passed yet, I have filed a complaint with the Postal Service and also reported the packages that have not yet arrived. If you are waiting on an order please alert me of the situation so I can note it alex@familytreedesign.net.

If your International order does not arrive within 8 weeks from order date, a refund or replacement will be sent to you.

Need it by the 25th?!

If you want to ensure your order will be received by the 25th then you’ll need to use US Express Mail. Service is overnight to most destinations, and the Post office will even deliver on 25th for Express. Cost for this is $25. If you are interested in this please contact me directly at alex@familytreedesign.net. After you complete your order, please let me know that you need it fast! And you will also need to send an additional Paypal payment of $18 to alex@familytreedesign.net to cover the Express Mail cost. Last day to order and receive by the 25th is Friday December 23rd.

We send all our Domestic shipments using the US Postal Service Priority Mail. That means you’ll get your order in 2-3 days from mailing, and we almost always send out orders the same day, as long as they are placed BEFORE 2pm CST. So although the post office doesn’t guarantee that time frame, they are usually quite diligent. Orders placed as late as December 21st still have a chance of getting to you by the 24th. Cutting it close… but it’s possible.

International shipments are another story… generally to EU and Great Britain it takes about two to three weeks. Other parts of the world usually take longer. So keep that in mind when ordering.
